Proposals for high-quality new homes in Stevenage given the green light

17th December 2019

Chalkdene Developments has been given the green light to deliver 85 high-quality new homes in the heart of Stevenage.

The proposals for the 6.2-acre site at Webb Rise, which will consist of two, three and four-bedroom properties, secured a resolution to grant planning permission by Stevenage Borough Council’s planning committee on 16 December 2019.

The scheme will include 64 houses for sale, five homes available with shared ownership and 16 with affordable rent, of which six are wheelchair accessible apartments.

Chalkdene Developments LLP is a 50-50 joint venture which was created in 2018 between Morgan Sindall Investments and Herts Living Ltd to develop vital new homes across the county on underutilised and surplus brownfield sites.

Located in the heart of Stevenage on the former Lonsdale School site, the new properties will be within easy access of the town centre and on the doorstep of the town’s popular Hampson Park.

The development will provide modern and distinctive designs and include a number of sustainable features such as electric car charging points and permeable paving.

Ben Harrop, Chalkdene General Manager said: “We are delighted to secure this resolution to grant planning permission for our site on Webb Rise – it’s an exciting new development which is set to deliver high-quality and sustainable family homes in a fantastic location. Our development also includes much needed policy compliant affordable family homes in Stevenage.”

Work on site is expected to begin in June 2020.

The Webb Rise scheme is the second development to be delivered by Chalkdene Developments in Hertfordshire.

Chalkdene’s development programme is aimed at helping the county address the needs of its growing population, supporting the requirement to create 90,000 new homes across the county by 2034.
